A large fire in East São Paulo injured three people and damaged multiple warehouses containing flammable materials.
A significant fire broke out on Avenida Ragueb Chohfi in the East Zone of São Paulo, affecting three warehouses and injuring three individuals. The incident occurred on the afternoon of Friday, September 20, and the fire was eventually brought under control by Saturday morning after a massive response from the local fire department, which deployed twenty fire trucks to the scene. Many small pockets of fire continued to be extinguished into the following day, highlighting the challenges posed by the flames.
The Brazilian fire department reported that the blaze began around 1:30 PM, and the warehouses were storing highly flammable materials, including rolls of paper, which likely exacerbated the spread of the fire. The rapid response from emergency services was crucial in preventing further injuries and damage. Notably, the fire also caused structural damage to the warehouses, indicating the severity of the incident.
Three individuals sustained first-degree burns and were transported to São Mateus Hospital for treatment. Fortunately, they were conscious when first responders arrived. The incident raises concerns about the safety regulations surrounding the storage of flammable materials in urban areas, especially in densely populated regions like São Paulo's East Zone.
