Medical Course in Piracicaba Will Be Supervised by the MEC After Low Scores in National Evaluation
The medical program at Anhembi Morumbi University in Piracicaba, Brazil, will undergo supervision by the Ministry of Education due to unsatisfactory performance in a national medical evaluation.
The Ministry of Education (MEC) has announced that the medical course at Anhembi Morumbi University in Piracicaba, São Paulo, will be placed under supervision following poor performance in the 2025 National Medical Training Evaluation Exam (Enamed). This decision comes after the results indicated an inadequate level of training provided by the program. Although the university is not facing immediate punitive measures, such as a reduction in student admissions, it will be required to respond formally to the MEC regarding its performance issues.
The newly issued decree by the MEC does not impose stricter sanctions at this time, allowing the university to prepare a defense to counter the evaluation findings. The university has publicly stated that the exam results do not, when viewed in isolation, provide a comprehensive indication of the quality of medical education offered. This reflects a broader concern regarding how educational standards are assessed and the implications such assessments have for institutions’ reputations and operations.
Since the exam results were revealed in January, the university has already been prohibited from increasing enrollment numbers, indicating a precautionary approach by the MEC. This measure underscores the importance of rigorous evaluation processes to ensure that medical training meets national standards and ultimately serves the healthcare needs of the population effectively.
