TODAY LIVE | The Estonian handball team hosts Cyprus in the EM qualifying series
The Estonian handball team is set to host Cyprus in a critical qualifying match for the EM series in Tallinn today.
The Estonian handball team is hosting Cyprus today at the Kalev Sports Hall in Tallinn as part of the EM qualifying series. The match will be broadcast live on ETV2 and ERR's sports portal, starting at 15:50. Commentators Johannes Vedru and Tarmo Ulla, along with studio host Aet Süvari, will provide coverage of the event. Originally scheduled for January, the match had to be postponed due to a traffic accident involving the Cypriot team’s bus while en route to Põlva.
In their previous encounter just a few days ago in Cyprus, Estonia secured a victory with a score of 31:27, giving them a four-goal advantage going into the home rematch. Despite the favorable lead, head coach Hendrik Varul expressed a desire for improvement, stating that while they won the match, the performance could have been significantly better. He emphasized that there are many areas where the team can enhance its game, recognizing that the added cushion of a lead can alleviate some pressure.
The winner of this two-match aggregate series will advance to the next qualification round, with Estonia hoping to capitalize on their current momentum. The match holds considerable weight not only for qualification but also for team morale and development as they push to establish themselves in European handball.
