The opposition party 'Latvia First' has put forward amendments to the Education Law that would grant early retirement pensions to teachers who reach the age of 60 and have at least 35 years of service. The lawmakers emphasize the need to support educators, acknowledging the mental and physical toll of the occupation.

The proposed legislation outlines that the calculation of the early retirement pension for teachers would be based on the average salary from the last five years of their service. Additionally, the proposal seeks to recognize the service time of teachers that predates May 4, 1990, within the territory of Latvia towards the accumulation of their retirement benefits.
