Satellite images document the extent of the destruction in an Afghan hospital in the capital, Kabul
Recent satellite images reveal extensive damage to a hospital in Kabul, Afghanistan, following an airstrike reportedly conducted by Pakistan.
Recent satellite images captured by the company 'Vantour' on March 20 showcase the severe damage inflicted on a healthcare complex in Kabul, Afghanistan, after an airstrike. The images reveal that several facilities within the complex have been completely destroyed. The Afghan government has announced that this airstrike, which it attributes to Pakistan, specifically targeted a rehabilitation hospital for drug addicts and resulted in the deaths of at least 400 individuals and injuries to another 250.
Hamidullah Fatrat, the Afghan government's deputy spokesperson, elaborated on social media about the airstrike, which he claims occurred the previous night and resulted in large sections of the hospital being obliterated. Rescue teams are reportedly struggling to control fires within the building and recover victims' bodies. Additionally, Khalid Zadran, the spokesperson for the Kabul Police Command, shared footage documenting the extent of the destruction at the 'Omid' hospital for drug addicts.
In contrast, Pakistan has vehemently denied these allegations, labeling them as "false and misleading," while asserting that its military operations were aimed specifically at precise military targets and infrastructure supporting terrorism. This incident has raised significant tensions in the region, as it touches upon issues of sovereignty, military engagements, and the humanitarian crisis following the Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan. Such occurrences highlight the fragile security situation in Kabul and the complex relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan, especially surrounding counter-terrorism efforts and regional stability.
