Airstrike in Afghan Capital: 'Hospital Destroyed and 400 Dead' According to Taliban Report

An airstrike in Kabul, Afghanistan, reportedly carried out by Pakistan, has led to the destruction of a hospital and a significant death toll, according to Taliban officials.

On the night of the 16th, Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, experienced an airstrike believed to be conducted by Pakistan. This attack has been reported by a Taliban spokesperson who stated that the airstrike resulted in the destruction of a hospital dedicated to drug addiction treatment, leaving around 400 deaths and 250 injuries in its wake. The facility, which had 2,000 beds, was described as being heavily affected by the strike, indicating a humanitarian crisis in addition to the loss of life.

Pakistan's Information Minister, Taral, confirmed via a social media post that airstrikes had targeted locations in Kabul and the eastern Nangarhar province, aiming specifically at what they labeled "military facilities supporting terrorism". He claimed that the attacks had successfully destroyed critical infrastructure related to technical support and a significant arms depot in Kabul, clearly suggesting an intent to diminish the Taliban's operational capabilities. This continuous aerial campaign against the Taliban reflects ongoing tensions and military confrontations that have boiled over since last month.

Following a series of clashes along the border between Pakistan and the Taliban, these airstrikes underscore the volatile security landscape in Afghanistan. The increasing military engagements by the Pakistani military, specifically targeted at the Taliban, signal a broader strategy to combat perceived threats emanating from Afghanistan. The implications of this conflict extend beyond immediate casualties, raising questions about regional stability and humanitarian conditions in the already war-torn country.
