The Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) has recently welcomed Taffy, a golden retriever trained to locate hidden electronic devices, to assist in investigations aimed at bringing child predators to justice. Taffy was specially trained at a dog training school in Indianapolis and has already participated in five missions since arriving in Saskatoon. Her contributions to the Internet Child Exploitation unit (ICE) have been significant, with one mission involving locating a phone that the officers were previously unaware of, showcasing her effectiveness and value.

Introduced at no cost to the SPS, Taffy is the result of a collaborative initiative with a non-profit organization named Our Rescue, which focuses on utilizing rescue dogs to aid law enforcement operations. This innovative approach not only enhances the capabilities of police investigations but also provides a second chance for rescue dogs to serve a vital purpose in society. Det. Byron Sommacal, Taffy’s handler, emphasizes Taffy’s importance in their operations, indicating a positive impact on their ability to conduct searches and gather evidence against child predators.
