Five Vietnamese Fishermen Swept Away by Waves, One Rescued in Fukui

Five Vietnamese fishermen were swept away by waves while fishing in Fukui, with one person rescued by helicopter.

On the morning of the 21st, around 2:50 AM, a report was received by the Fukui Coast Guard regarding an incident involving five Vietnamese trainees being swept away by waves near the Mikuni breakwater in Sakai City, Fukui Prefecture. It is believed that the incident occurred around 2:25 AM, prompting a search operation by the Fukui Prefectural Police and the Coast Guard. One man, aged 24, was successfully rescued by helicopter and reported to be conscious and uninjured. Rescue efforts are ongoing for the remaining four individuals, as teams continue to search the area using helicopters from the Coast Guard and police.

All eight individuals involved in the incident are technical trainees from Vietnam who had come for fishing. The location of the incident, near the mouth of the Kuzuryu River, is reported to be a restricted area. The authorities have warned that this area is dangerous due to potential strong waves, further highlighting the risks associated with fishing in such conditions. Given the current search and rescue efforts, the situation underscores the importance of safety measures for foreign workers engaged in activities near coastal regions.
