Fraudulent platform selling child exploitation images dismantled, says Europol

Europol announces the dismantling of a fraudulent dark web platform that sold child exploitation images and fraudulently scammed thousands.

Europol has reported the successful dismantling of a dark web platform involved in selling images of child exploitation, with collaboration from law enforcement agencies across 23 countries. The operation, named 'Alice', targeted the platform's operator, a 35-year-old man from China, who reportedly managed over 373,000 fraudulent websites. Authorities revealed that around 440 of the platform's clients have been identified in their ongoing investigation.

The dark web platform, known as 'Alice with Violence CP', offered more than just child exploitation images; it also provided other cybercrime-related services, including the sale of stolen credit card information. Users who attempted to purchase illicit materials were scammed, receiving nothing in return for their payments. Europol estimates that the suspect generated approximately €345,000 from around 10,000 individuals trying to obtain these illegal images, indicating the extensive reach and operations of such dark web platforms.

As police continue their investigations, they aim to identify more users involved in this dark web marketplace. The dismantling of this platform is a significant step in combating online child exploitation and fraudulent operations, highlighting the importance of international cooperation in addressing such serious criminal activities.
