Protests by the Teaching Staff in Guerrero: CETEG Teachers Block Banks and Businesses in Chilpancingo
Members of the CETEG intensified protests in Guerrero by blocking bank access and commercial establishments in Chilpancingo during their national strike.
On Friday, members of the Coordinadora Estatal de Trabajadores de la Educación en Guerrero (CETEG) ramped up their protest actions by blocking access to banks and closing commercial establishments in Chilpancingo, marking the third day of their nationwide 72-hour strike. Early in the morning, teachers gathered with banners at various bank branches in the main square, including BBVA, Banamex, Banco Azteca, and Coppel, effectively preventing customers from accessing these services.
Simultaneously, another group of protesters moved to the Universal neighborhood, which includes a shopping center with bank facilities. There, they also closed the banks as a pressure tactic to insist on the re-establishment of dialogue with Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. This coordinated effort reflects the community's frustration with the government's handling of educational and labor concerns, showcasing the determination of the CETEG to push for their demands in the face of ongoing challenges.
The protests emphasize the ongoing struggle for better working conditions within the education sector and the importance of dialogue between educators and government officials. By blocking these institutions, CETEG is not only drawing attention to their cause but also aiming to garner public support and pressure the government into responding to their demands for negotiations and potential reforms.
