CNTE begins third day of blockades and marches in CDMX: What streets will be closed today?

The CNTE protests continue in Mexico City with significant blockades that will affect major traffic routes on the third day of demonstrations.

On March 20, Mexico City is experiencing significant disruptions due to the third day of protests by the National Coordinating Committee of Education Workers (CNTE). The CNTE's ongoing protests are part of a 72-hour strike action aimed at drawing attention to various educational issues. Starting from 9:00 AM, blockades will mainly occur in the Cuauhtémoc borough, which is central to the city and heavily trafficked by commuters.

The Secretary of Citizen Security (SSC) has provided a list of affected streets and is advising citizens to prepare for delays, suggesting they plan alternative routes. One of the most impacted areas will be Paseo de la Reforma, a major thoroughfare in Mexico City, with numerous blockades around key locations such as various Afore offices. The CNTE has shared specific points of contention and locations where the blockades will take place, indicating that demonstrators are determined to make their voices heard amidst ongoing negotiations.

These protests underline the tensions between educational workers and the government regarding their demands, which have yet to be fully addressed. As the CNTE persists with their demonstrations, it reflects the broader issues within the education sector in Mexico, involving funding and workers' rights, making this not just a labor issue but a societal one that impacts many aspects of life in the capital.
