An innovative strategy to care for renal health and save the planet
The Argentine Society of Nephrology campaigns for renal health awareness and environmental protection during World Kidney Month.
During World Kidney Month, the Argentine Society of Nephrology (SAN) joins the international campaign themed "Renal health for all: caring for people, protecting the planet" which highlights the connection between human health and environmental protection. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) presents significant health challenges globally and nationally, affecting approximately 1 in 10 people while often remaining asymptomatic in its early stages, leading to late diagnoses.
As a response to the growing prevalence of CKD, prevention campaigns are crucial, emphasizing that early detection can save lives. This year's campaign underscores the integration of renal health and environmental sustainability, recognizing the escalating impact of climate change and environmental factors as key determinants in the progression of kidney diseases. Moreover, renal replacement therapies, such as dialysis, highlight the need for sustainable practices in healthcare.
The emphasis on early detection and proactive management of CKD, along with the acknowledgment of environmental responsibility, aims to foster a holistic approach towards health that aligns personal well-being with planetary health. This campaign not only seeks to inform the public about the importance of kidney health but also to advocate for collaborative efforts towards a more sustainable healthcare system that safeguards both patients and the environment.
