Army kills dozens of terrorists, foils drone attack, in Borno, others
Nigerian troops conducted successful military operations in North-East Borno, eliminating numerous terrorists and foiling a drone attack.
The Nigerian Defence Headquarters announced that troops from Operation Hadin Kai successfully neutralized a significant number of terrorists during recent operations in the North-East region. In a briefing held in Abuja, Maj.-Gen. Michael Onoja detailed events from March 13 to March 19, indicating not only the repulsion of a major assault in Mallam Fatori, Borno, but also the elimination of senior terrorist leaders. The operations culminated in the recovery of 74 terrorist bodies and a substantial cache of weaponry, including AK-47 rifles and machine guns.
In addition to combat operations, troops successfully thwarted multiple infiltration attempts across various local government areas including Bama, Gujba, and Kaga. These efforts led to the arrest of key logistical suppliers and informants aiding the terrorists. The statement highlighted the coordination of air and ground operations which effectively repelled numerous attacks in Baga, Damboa, Buratai, and Njimtilo, significantly degrading the capabilities of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
The implications of these operations extend beyond immediate military success, as they signal a reinvigorated campaign against terrorism in the region. With the elimination of many senior commanders, the Nigerian military aims to disrupt the command structure of ISWAP significantly. Continued operations of this scale may help stabilize the area, restore confidence in military capabilities, and provide a safer environment for local communities prone to insurgent attacks.
