Nigeria: Troops Foil Multiple Terrorist Attacks On Military Spots, Recover Weapons in Borno

Nigerian troops have successfully thwarted several terrorist attacks in Borno State, attributed to ISWAP, while recovering weapons and maintaining control of military bases.

Troops from the Joint Task Force (North East), operating under the mandate of Operation Hadin Kai, have repelled a series of coordinated terrorist assaults targeting military positions in Borno State, Nigeria, during late February to early March 2026. The attacks were attributed to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), and soldiers engaged in combat at Forward Operating Bases located at Mayanti, Gajigana, and Gajiram. The military reported that multiple insurgents were killed during the engagements, and a significant cache of weapons and equipment was recovered as a result of these operations.

Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer for Operation Hadin Kai, confirmed the developments and emphasized that the thwarted attacks indicate increasing pressure on ISWAP’s strongholds, their supply chains, and leadership. The Nigerian military's sustained aggressive operations in Sector 2 are making considerable strides towards degrading the operational capabilities of these terrorist factions. Notably, the swift response of the troops in Gajigana successfully kept the base secure amidst the assaults.

As the military continues to strengthen its operations against ISWAP, these events highlight the ongoing security challenges faced in North Eastern Nigeria. The resilience and combat effectiveness demonstrated by the troops reflect the Nigerian government’s commitment to restoring security in the region while dealing with the persistent threat of insurgency. Such developments are critical not only for military operations but also for bolstering public confidence in the authorities’ ability to manage terrorism within the country.
