The location of pimples can indicate their causes, says a doctor
A Finnish doctor suggests that the location of pimples can sometimes indicate underlying external factors contributing to their formation, particularly related to hygiene practices.
In a recent discussion, Dr. Emilia Lagus, a general practitioner at Terveystalo, provided insights into the patterns of pimple formation on the skin. She notes that while pimples can appear anywhere on the body, their specific location can sometimes point to particular lifestyle habits or hygiene factors. For instance, common areas for breakouts include the T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin), which tends to be oilier compared to other parts of the face.
Dr. Lagus emphasizes that the T-zone is considered a 'risk area' for acne due to its oilier nature. In addition, she highlights that breakouts on the cheeks may be linked to external impurities, particularly those transferred from objects that frequently touch the face, such as smartphones and pillowcases. She explains that phones are rarely cleaned despite being pressed against the skin, allowing bacteria and dirt to contribute to skin issues.
The doctor advises maintaining cleanliness by regularly cleaning smartphones and changing pillowcases often to prevent the occurrence of acne in these susceptible areas. This practical advice underscores the importance of hygiene in skincare, suggesting that addressing these external factors may significantly reduce the likelihood of pimple formation.
