Kotipizza gives up hamburgers
Kotipizza Group has sold its Social Burgerjoint brand to Artisan Fast Food.
Kotipizza Group has made a notable business move by selling its Social Burgerjoint brand to Artisan Fast Food. The sale includes restaurants located in Helsinki's Redi and Citycenter, as well as in Tampere, although the financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed. As part of this transition, the staff from these locations will continue working under the new ownership, ensuring job security amid company changes.
Artisan Fast Food's ownership includes Tapio Alanko, who has been involved with the Social Burgerjoint franchise since 2020. Alongside him is Marco Kaniecki, who shares the responsibility for managing the brand. Social Burgerjoint, known for its artisan burgers, was founded in 2016 with the first restaurant opening in Helsinki’s Sörnäinen a year later. This brand has since gained popularity for its unique take on fast food.
The sale follows Kotipizza Group acquiring a majority stake in Social Burgerjoint back in November 2017. This development reflects a broader trend in the food and beverage industry, where companies often pivot or divest assets to concentrate on core competencies or respond to changing market demands. For Kotipizza, divesting this brand may allow it to focus more heavily on its pizza offerings, while for Artisan Fast Food, it represents an opportunity to expand its culinary portfolio in the rapidly growing fast-casual dining sector in Finland.
