Mexican Troops Will Travel to the U.S.: Why 60 Members of the Armed Forces are Heading to Mississippi?
The Mexican Senate has unanimously approved the deployment of 60 naval personnel to the United States for specialized training.
The Mexican Senate has authorized the deployment of 60 members of the Naval Special Operations Unit of the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar) to participate in a training program in the United States. This decision was made with 69 votes in favor, allowing the Mexican marines to attend an event called 'Enhancing the Operational Capacity of the Special Operations Unit.' The training is scheduled to take place from April 6 to May 30, 2026, at the Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center in Mississippi.
Carlos LomelΓ BolaΓ±os, the president of the Navy Commission, emphasized that this collaboration is based on the principle of 'cooperation without subordination.' He indicated that this initiative does not compromise national sovereignty but rather strengthens it through the exchange of capabilities and knowledge with the United States. The objective of the training is to enhance the response capabilities of the Mexican Armed Forces.
This development signifies an important step in the ongoing military cooperation between Mexico and the United States, particularly in light of the shared challenges both nations face regarding security and defense. By participating in this training, Mexican forces aim to improve their operational readiness, which may also contribute positively to regional security dynamics and partnerships amid increasing security issues in the region.
