Senate approves entry of 12 military personnel from the United States
The Mexican Senate has authorized the entry of 12 U.S. military personnel to participate in a joint training exercise in Mexico.
The Mexican Senate has given the go-ahead for the entry of 12 military personnel from the United States to aid in the 'Capacitación MEXSOF (Defensa)' training exercise, scheduled to take place from February 27 to July 15. Despite the abstention of the Movimiento Ciudadano party, the authorization received the support of 91 senators, indicating a significant bipartisan consensus on the importance of military cooperation between the two nations.
The personnel, specifically from the 7th Special Operations Group of the North American Special Operations Command, will be involved in training exercises at several locations including the Special Forces Training Center in Temamatla, State of Mexico, and other military training centers in Quintana Roo. Senator Ana Lilia Rivera, who chairs the National Defense Commission, emphasized that this training aims to enhance competitive capabilities through joint exercises, which are vital for strengthening defense ties between Mexico and the U.S.
This development reflects the ongoing collaboration between the two countries on security matters, particularly in response to regional challenges involving organized crime and drug trafficking. The integration of U.S. military training in Mexico underscores a shared commitment to improving operational readiness and countering threats in a mutually beneficial manner.
