Sauna in Finland sets Guinness World Record

A new Guinness World Record was set in Finland for the most sauna participants within a single day at Jätkäsaari's Uuden Saunan.

In a remarkable event held at Uuden Saunan in Jätkäsaari, Finland, a new Guinness World Record has been established for the most sauna participants within a 24-hour period. The record-breaking sauna relay began on Thursday at 4 PM and concluded with the last participant, Mats Welander, stepping out on Friday at the same time. All participants specifically took turns in the sauna individually and were only allowed to enter once during the event, which adhered to the Guinness guidelines stipulating that each person must stay for a minimum of 5 minutes and a maximum of 15 minutes.

The event was meticulously planned, with 147 volunteers recruited ahead of time to ensure that the record attempt was successful. Given the regulations, each participant was expected to occupy the sauna for about 10 minutes. Interestingly, the organizers accounted for extra participants, anticipating that they may exceed the required number to ensure the planned relay could run smoothly. This foresight proved beneficial, as the overwhelming response resulted in a large number of individuals eager to participate in this unique celebration of Finnish culture.

This sauna event not only highlights the traditional Finnish practice of sauna bathing but also serves as a testament to community spirit and cooperation in striving towards a common goal. The successful establishment of the Guinness World Record brings national pride and showcases Finland’s rich sauna heritage to a broader audience, emphasizing the importance of sauna in Finnish culture as a space for relaxation, socializing, and health benefits.
