In a recent operation conducted between March 16 and 19, federal authorities in Brazil rescued twelve workers from a farm in Alto Taquari, located approximately 480 kilometers from Cuiabá. The workers, who primarily hailed from Maranhão, had been lured to the site with false job promises and were engaged in eucalyptus cutting and charcoal production. The operation revealed troubling conditions that violate the workers' rights and dignity.
Federal Police reports highlighted numerous violations of labor laws, including the absence of formal employment records, excessively long working hours, inadequate compensation, lack of necessary training, and a noticeable absence of personal protective equipment. Upon inspection, the authorities uncovered the deplorable living conditions provided for these workers, which lacked basic hygiene, comfort, and safety standards, thereby underscoring the severity of labor exploitation in the region.
