Music in the Ward, the Music That Heals
The 'Music in the Ward' initiative brings live musical performances to hospitals in Lombardy, promoting healing and connection among patients, families, and healthcare workers.
'Music in the Ward' is an initiative that advocates for the therapeutic benefits of music in hospital settings, having gained recognition after its second edition. Organized by the Antonio Carlo Monzino Foundation and supported by the Banco Popolare di Milano Foundation, the project aims to deliver live music experiences within healthcare facilities across Lombardy. This initiative facilitates profound interactions between young musicians, patients, their families, and healthcare professionals, all united by the universal language of music.
Believing in music's capacity to alleviate suffering, reduce stress and anxiety, and restore humanity in vulnerable environments, 'Music in the Ward' provides a non-verbal embrace that transforms listening into a shared experience. By integrating culture, health, and education, the initiative underscores the importance of arts in fostering emotional and psychological well-being, particularly in challenging situations like hospitalization.
The program is executed in collaboration with the Regional School Office for Lombardy and is implemented by the Classical, Musical, and Choreutic High School “B. Zucchi” in Monza, involving various Musical Lyceums and Comprehensive Institutes. This partnership enhances the project's educational aspect, allowing students to actively participate in using music as a healing tool, thus enriching both their personal development and the lives of those they engage with during performances.
