On the night of Thursday, the 19th, and into the early hours of Friday, the 20th, torrential rain disrupted life in Santarém, a city in the west of Pará, Brazil. The downpour resulted in extensive flooding in several neighborhoods, with numerous homes being inundated with water. Local emergency services, including the Fire Department and Civil Defense, have been actively monitoring the situation and assessing the damage across the affected areas.

Sergeant Campos, the commander of the 4th Fire Battalion, reported that many of the flooding incidents were concentrated in the neighborhoods of Prainha and Santarenzinho, as well as along the city's waterfront. He emphasized that a significant amount of debris in storm drains has hindered proper drainage, exacerbating the flooding situation. This environmental negligence highlights the ongoing challenge of waste management in urban areas that can lead to increased vulnerability to natural events.

One of the most severely impacted locations was Avenida Pedro Gentil in the Santíssimo neighborhood, where approximately 13 families lost all their furniture due to the flooding. The reported damages have raised concerns among local residents and officials about the adequacy of infrastructure and emergency response in dealing with such extreme weather.
