Gallery: Marko Matvere takes viewers to explore lighthouses in the new season
Marko Matvere's show 'Lighthouses at Home Port' is returning for a new season, guiding viewers to explore Estonia's coast and the lighthouses located there.
The new season of 'Lighthouses at Home Port', hosted by Marko Matvere, begins this Saturday, inviting viewers to discover Estonian coastal landscapes and the lighthouses that dot them. Last year, the show premiered on ETV, but Matvere only managed to explore a fraction of Estonia's many lighthouses. In the upcoming season, he continues his journey into local cultural history, unearthing stories tied to coastal areas that have been preserved in stone, wind, and collective memory.
As he voyages across the sea, coastlines, and islands of Estonia, Matvere emphasizes the importance of history and maritime knowledge. The first destination of the new season will be Vormsi (OrmsΓΆ), an island enriched by the centuries-old heritage of coastal Swedes, which has greatly influenced its character. On this island, three lighthouses oversee the maritime routes: the venerable Saxby lighthouse and the slender Norrby beacons, each with their own stories to tell.
This spring, eight episodes of the series are set to be broadcast, featuring visits to other significant locations such as Kihnu, Vilsandi, the Haapsalu vicinity, and Hiiumaa. The series not only highlights the lighthouses but also the historical significance of these coastal regions, aiming to educate viewers about Estonia's rich maritime culture and heritage.
