Woman asked for nighttime messages to stop but the man continued – sentence for violation of communication peace in Lahti

A 44-year-old man from Lahti has been fined for violating communication peace by sending repeated nighttime messages to a woman, despite her requests to stop.

A court in Päijät-Häme has sentenced a 44-year-old man from Lahti to pay a fine for violating communication peace. The court ordered him to pay a total of €1,500 in fines, alongside an additional compensation of €500 to the recipient of the messages for her distress. He is also responsible for legal fees exceeding €2,000 and a €40 victim charge to the state.

The case revolves around the man sending numerous messages via a messaging app late at night over a span of about a month, specifically from April to May 2024. The messages were deemed unnecessary for the arrangement of any mutual agreements between the parties involved. The court revealed that despite the woman's requests for the messages to cease, the man persisted in his communication, which ultimately led to the legal proceedings.

While the precise relationship between the man and the woman remains unclear, it is noted that they share the same surname. The court's decision is not yet legally binding, suggesting potential grounds for appeal or further legal action. This case highlights ongoing concerns regarding unsolicited communication and personal boundaries in digital interactions.
