Slab of under-construction bridge falls in Chanduali: FIR against bridge corporation, JE suspended
A slab from an under-construction railway overbridge in Chanduali, India, fell during casting, prompting an FIR against the construction corporation and the suspension of a junior engineer.
In a significant incident in Chanduali district of Uttar Pradesh, a slab from a railway overbridge being constructed in the village of Banouli Khurd collapsed late Wednesday night while concrete was being poured. The project, linked to the Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction-Gaya rail route, experienced a structural failure due to shuttering imbalance. Fortunately, workers present at the site sensed the danger and managed to escape, thus avoiding any casualties. Following the incident, local officials, including District Magistrate Chandra Mohan Garg and Superintendent of Police Aditya Langhe, immediately inspected the site and took decisive actions against the construction agency, Setu Nigam. An FIR has been registered against them, and the junior engineer responsible has been suspended. Additionally, departmental action has been initiated against the project manager and assistant engineer involved in the project. The District Magistrate adopted a strict stance following the severity of the incident, highlighting the need for accountability in construction safety. He instructed a technical investigation to be conducted by the Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department to prevent such accidents in the future. This incident not only raises questions about the construction practices and safety protocols of Setu Nigam but also emphasizes the importance of oversight in large-scale infrastructure projects in India.
