Delhi Bridge Accident: Woman Dies After Bridge Collapses, Report Requested Within 48 Hours
A woman tragically lost her life when a foot overbridge in Delhi collapsed, raising serious concerns about the safety of aging infrastructure in the city.
On Tuesday morning, a tragic incident occurred in the Rohini area of Delhi when a foot overbridge near Mother Dairy collapsed unexpectedly. The incident took place during the daily routine hours when local residents were busy with their activities. The massive iron structure fell suddenly, creating chaos as people screamed. A woman who was crossing the bridge fell directly into the deep, polluted waters of the Najafgarh drain.
Following the incident, teams from the Delhi Police, Fire Brigade, and NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) arrived at the scene and initiated a rescue operation. Despite their efforts in retrieving the woman from the drain, she could not be resuscitated. This incident has once again raised serious questions about the safety and upkeep of old and dilapidated infrastructure in Delhi, as initial investigations revealed that the collapsed bridge was around 33 years old and had deteriorated significantly over the years due to exposure to the elements.
It is alarming that the local administration was reportedly aware of the potential dangers posed by the bridge. Inspections conducted earlier in March revealed its compromised structural integrity, yet no preventive measures were taken. This tragedy has sparked a renewed debate about infrastructure safety policies in the capital and calls for immediate assessments and refurbishments of aging structures to prevent such incidents in the future.
