A’Ibom adopts AI to boost primary education

The Akwa Ibom State Government has launched an AI-driven initiative to enhance basic education by improving literacy and numeracy among primary school pupils.

The Akwa Ibom State Government in Nigeria has announced an innovative reform program that leverages Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance basic education in state-owned primary schools. This initiative aims to foster foundational literacy and numeracy among pupils and is designed in collaboration with EIDU, a global organization specializing in educational outcomes. The program highlights a data-driven approach, ensuring that teaching methods are tailored to individual learning needs, enabling a more effective learning environment.

EIDU will provide a comprehensive platform that not only supports teachers with structured lesson plans but also offers personalized, interactive learning activities for students based on their progress. Central to this initiative is the implementation of human-centered AI technology, which tracks student performance and identifies learning gaps in real-time. This allows for immediate interventions, ensuring that educational support is both timely and relevant to each pupil's needs.

The rollout of the program will occur in phases, starting with the initial phase targeting 6,000 pupils across 67 schools during the upcoming 2025/2026 academic session. The initiative not only aims to incorporate technology into instructional methods but also focuses on equipping teachers and school leaders with the necessary tools and training to effectively implement this new system, promising significant improvements in pupil learning outcomes across the region.
