Democratic Party of Gyeonggi Province Confirms Candidates Kim Byeong-wook for Seongnam and Jeong Deok-young for Yangju, 8 Others Set for Primaries

The Democratic Party's Gyeonggi Province party has confirmed Kim Byeong-wook as the candidate for Seongnam mayor and Jeong Deok-young for Yangju mayor, while eight other local candidates will compete in primaries.

The Democratic Party of Gyeonggi Province has officially nominated Kim Byeong-wook, a former National Assembly member, as their candidate for the Seongnam mayoral election for the June 3 local elections. Additionally, Jeong Deok-young, a former chairman of the Yangju City Council, has been singularly nominated for the Yangju mayoral race. Meanwhile, candidates for mayoral positions in eight other local municipalities, including Gwacheon, Guri, Gunpo, Bucheon, Yongin, Icheon, Paju, and Gimpo, will undergo primary elections to determine the party's final candidates.

The party’s nomination committee indicated that it will confirm remaining candidates for the other 21 local government positions through either singular nominations or primary elections by the following month. According to Yoon Jong-geun, the committee’s secretary, the nominations are being conducted in adherence to principles of fairness and transparency while complying with the central party's '4-non nomination' policy, which implies avoiding controversial selections. Yoon emphasized the thorough and objective evaluation of candidates based on their ethics, policy capabilities, contributions to the local community, and competitiveness in the elections ahead.

This strategy highlights the Democratic Party's attempt to solidify its position ahead of the upcoming local elections, ensuring that the nominated candidates align with core party values and local expectations. With a focus on integrity and strategic selection, the party aims to foster confidence among constituents and present a strong front against rival parties during the elections, facing challenges across diverse local landscapes in Gyeonggi Province.
