Democratic Party and People Power Party Begin ‘Nomination Interviews’ for 31 Local Leaders in Gyeonggi Province
The Democratic Party and the People Power Party in Gyeonggi Province have begun nomination interviews for 31 local candidate contenders starting from the 16th.
The Democratic Party and People Power Party in Gyeonggi Province have initiated their nomination process for local elections by conducting interviews for potential candidates. Starting on the 16th of the month, the Democratic Party's public nomination management committee commenced a unique interview format aimed at enhancing transparency within the nomination process. This public aspect of interviews is designed to build trust with the province's residents. The committee chair, Kwon Hyuk-seong, emphasized principles aimed at ensuring fair selections by eliminating biases or corrupt practices in the candidacy process.
The Democratic Party organized its initial set of interviews for candidates in prominent regions like Suwon, Seongnam, Gwangcheon, and Bucheon, with discussions held to further evaluate candidate capabilities. This novel approach includes public forums where candidates can be directly assessed, and each candidate will also have their policy videos posted online, moving away from traditional closed-door assessments. Subsequent interviews are slated for the 17th in additional regions such as Guri, Paju, and Yangju, paving the way for what they term 'innovative nominations'.
Meanwhile, the People Power Party is also facilitating interviews for their candidates in a focused examination process, having confirmed schedules for 55 applicants across various cities. Their strategic approach emphasizes a tailored selection method based on local conditions. On both days of the nomination process, interviews will be conducted amid increased competitiveness, particularly in certain regions seeing high candidate interest, such as Gapyeong County. Both parties underline the critical significance of these interviews in determining candidates with the best chance to win the elections, aiming for nominations that align with public expectations and minimize potential controversies in the selection process.
