One of the largest refineries in the Middle East is on fire
A major oil refinery in Kuwait has caught fire following drone strikes, affecting parts of its operations.
In Kuwait, one of the largest oil refineries in the Middle East, the Mina Al-Ahmadi refinery, is currently ablaze after being hit by multiple drone strikes. Located approximately 50 kilometers from Kuwait City, the refinery has had to shut down certain areas to combat the fire, but fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far. This incident marks the second consecutive day that the refinery has been attacked.
Reports indicate that the drone strikes are attributed to Iranian forces, as tensions escalate in the region. The Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, which is responsible for the refinery's operations, confirmed the ongoing fire and its impact on oil production, which amounts to approximately 730,000 barrels per day. The assault on the refinery comes amidst a wave of Iranian attacks targeting energy installations, likely in retaliation for recent Israeli airstrikes on Iranian gas fields, specifically the South Pars field.
As the situation develops, all eyes are on the implications for regional energy security and geopolitical stability. The attacks further highlight the fragility of energy infrastructure in the Middle East, and as Iran ramps up its military actions, responses from both Kuwait and Israel will be closely monitored. This incident not only threatens local oil supply chains but may also have wider repercussions for international oil markets and diplomatic relations in the region.
