Military exercises will improve artillery and anti-tank unit cooperation in Ādaži

The military exercises "Solar Eclipse 2026" in Latvia aim to enhance the collaboration skills of artillery and anti-tank units along with logistics support amidst various conditions.

The military exercises known as "Solar Eclipse 2026" are organized by the Mechanized Infantry Brigade of Latvia’s Land Forces, focusing primarily on improving the skills of artillery and anti-tank units. Key objectives include enhancing inter-unit cooperation and improving target acquisition capabilities using drones. This exercise illustrates Latvia’s commitment to strengthening its military readiness and capabilities within the framework of its defense strategy, especially in collaboration with NATO allies.

Running from March 27 to April 2, the military exercises will involve soldiers and reservists from various brigades of the National Armed Forces including the Mechanized Infantry Brigade, 1st Riga Brigade, 2nd Vidzeme Brigade, and 3rd Latgale Brigade. Allies from NATO’s multinational brigade stationed in Latvia will also participate, emphasizing the importance of multinational military collaboration. The exercise includes live artillery firing, which may cause temporary increased noise levels.

Moreover, the exercises will lead to possible temporary traffic restrictions in the Ādaži area due to the movement of military equipment on public roads. Authorities have planned for shooting activities at night from March 24 to March 31, raising awareness of safety measures for local residents. This event is a significant demonstration of the readiness of Latvia’s military capabilities and its integration with NATO forces, reinforcing its strategic position in the region amid ongoing concerns of security in Eastern Europe.
