Liopa, arrested in an IT procurement fraud case, suspended from his position at the DAP
Jorens Liopa has been suspended from his position at the State Environmental Department following his arrest in a criminal investigation into IT procurement fraud.
Jorens Liopa, the former director of the State Digital Development Agency (VDAA), has been suspended from his position at the State Environmental Department (DAP) after being arrested in a criminal investigation initiated by the European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO) regarding possible fraud in IT procurements. Liopa had previously lost his position at VDAA due to identified irregularities in IT provision during last year's municipal elections. Subsequently, he took on a role as deputy director in the Environmental Protection Department at DAP.
The suspension arises after reports surfaced on Wednesday regarding potential raids connected to Liopa's arrest. DAP confirmed to LETA news agency that Liopa had failed to report to work and could not be reached via any communication channels on that day. This unusual absence heightened concerns within the agency, leading to further scrutiny of his situation following the serious allegations against him.
Additionally, DAP's Director of Communications and Environmental Education, Elīna Ezeriņa, confirmed on Thursday evening that an official request from the State Police had provided verification of Liopa's arrest. The agency's decision to suspend him reflects a clear stance on maintaining integrity within public service, particularly in response to allegations that threaten to undermine trust in public procurement processes.
