The Games continue, the Observatory for managing the 'legacy' is born
Italy has initiated a project called 'I Giochi continuano' to ensure the lasting legacy of the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympic Games through an observatory focusing on sports and cultural values.
The project 'I Giochi continuano' aims to maintain the legacy of the upcoming Milan Cortina 2026 Olympic Games by establishing the Ocs, or Observatory for Sports and Cultural Values. This initiative seeks to implement a variety of events, studies, and projects that highlight Olympic Culture and Heritage. By engaging with regions that hosted the games, such as Lombardy, Veneto, and Trentino-Alto Adige, along with regional CONI committees and local institutions, the program is striving to create a stable ecosystem for collaboration between public and private sectors.
Professor Franco Ascani, a member of the IOC’s Culture and Olympic Heritage Commission, emphasized that the legacy of the Olympic and Paralympic experience should integrate with sports culture, focusing on sustainability, innovation, and social inclusion. The endeavor will foster a collective network to unite institutions, stakeholders, and communities in a holistic approach to managing the dividends of the Games, ensuring they resonate beyond the event itself.
As Milan Cortina prepares for the Olympics, the observatory not only serves as a mechanism for preserving heritage but also as a driver for reinforcing community ties through sports. This comprehensive strategy indicates a forward-thinking approach to the upcoming Olympic Games, where the impact is designed to extend into the societal fabric, enhancing the relevance of sports culture in Italy.
