Following some concerns about his fitness, SLC Secretary Bandula Dissanayake confirmed that Pathirana has successfully completed his rehabilitation and has been issued a no-objection certificate (NOC) to participate in the tournament. The acquisition of Pathirana by KKR for ₹18 crores was a significant investment, especially after he suffered an injury during a T20 World Cup match against Australia.
