Former mayor of Americana and current Secretary of Education of Taboão da Serra sentenced to return R$ 276,000 from daycare construction
Diego De Nadai, the former mayor of Americana, and Luciano Corrêa, the current Secretary of Education of Taboão da Serra, have been ordered to repay R$ 276,600 to public coffers due to irregular payments made for daycare construction in 2011.
Diego De Nadai, the former mayor of Americana, and Luciano Corrêa, the current Secretary of Education of Taboão da Serra, have both been ordered by the courts to repay a total of R$ 276,600 to the municipal coffers of Americana. This ruling stems from improper payments allegedly made in 2011 to Luxor Engenharia Ltda., the company contracted to construct a daycare facility in Vale dos Nogueiras, despite claims that the construction work was not properly executed. The payments, authorized by engineer and public servant Márcio Rodrigo Moreno, were made without Moreno conducting any inspections of the work, as he admitted in court. Both Luxor Engenharia and Moreno have also faced condemnation.
Luciano Corrêa served as the Secretary of Education in Americana from 2010 to 2014 before taking the same position in Taboão da Serra. The daycare facility in question was ultimately completed by a different contractor in 2017, indicating administrative challenges and potential lapses in oversight during the original contracting and building processes. The case raises concerns about accountability in public spending, particularly in the management of educational infrastructure.
The defense team for De Nadai has stated their intention to file a declaration of embargo due to perceived flaws, omissions, and contradictions in the evidence presented during the trial. If the 2nd Civil Court of Americana does not reverse this decision, the legal disputes are likely to continue, reflecting the ongoing challenges within the local government regarding transparency and financial management.
