Police seize 10 handmade weapons in Maceió; material may be linked to a faction

A police operation in Maceió led to the seizure of 10 handmade shotguns and ammunition, suspected to be linked to a criminal faction operating in Alagoas.

A recent operation by the Military Police in Maceió resulted in the discovery and seizure of homemade firearms and ammunition within a forested area in the Pontal da Barra neighborhood. This operation, led by the Special Missions Command, was initiated after intelligence reports indicated that weapons had been concealed in the region. Notably, BOPE (Battalion of Special Operations) managed to locate four similar handmade firearms buried in the Vergel do Lago neighborhood during the same operation.

During the course of this operation, the police, with the support of a trained canine unit, uncovered ten handmade shotguns of 12-gauge caliber, along with additional ammunition. Following these findings, more rounds of the same caliber were discovered in the vicinity, indicating a potential stockpile of illegal weaponry. The authorities have indicated that the seized materials might be connected to a criminal faction known to operate within Alagoas, intensifying concerns regarding organized crime in the area.

The police suspect that these weapons were intended for use in a region known as 'Coreia', located near the Trapiche neighborhood. This raises significant concerns about ongoing violence and criminal activities within Maceió and surrounding regions, highlighting the challenge of tackling organized crime and ensuring public safety in areas where such factions are prevalent. The operation's outcomes reinforce the importance of police intelligence and proactive measures in addressing illegal firearms distribution.
