On Wednesday afternoon, September 18, students from the Federal Fluminense University (UFF), supported by professors, staged a demonstration on the Amaral Peixoto highway, in front of the Rio das Ostras campus. The protest aimed to demand justice and information regarding the disappearance of 28-year-old nursing student Paloma Fragoso Gomes, who has been missing for 100 days. The last confirmed sighting of Paloma was on December 6, when she left her student housing heading towards the Anchora neighborhood. During the protest, participants held banners and chanted slogans urging for a quicker investigation and greater transparency regarding Paloma's case, which remains unresolved. The students expressed their frustration over the lack of progress in the investigation, highlighting the emotional strain and anxiety experienced by both the student body and Paloma’s family, who are searching for closure in an increasingly difficult situation. Paloma was in her ninth semester of nursing studies and was preparing to defend her thesis. Faculty members described her as dedicated and an active participant in her academic community. The ongoing investigation and the public's call for accountability highlight not only the personal tragedy involving Paloma but also broader safety concerns for students in the region, underscoring the need for improved measures to ensure student safety and effective communication between law enforcement and the community.
