Boa Vista has the second best basic sanitation among capitals in the North, study shows

A recent study reveals that Boa Vista ranks second among northern state capitals in Brazil for basic sanitation.

A study conducted by the Instituto Trata Brasil has revealed that Boa Vista, the capital of Roraima, has the second-best basic sanitation system among Northern Brazilian capitals. This ranking, which evaluates water supply and sewage treatment, as well as investments from 2020 to 2024, was published on Wednesday, the 18th. The study measures several factors including the average investment per inhabitant and indicators of water loss in the distribution network.

In a national context, Boa Vista has improved its position in the Basic Sanitation Ranking 2026, climbing from 47th to 41st place among Brazil's 100 most populous municipalities. This survey reflects ongoing efforts to enhance sanitation services through better management and investment, demonstrating a significant improvement in basic services' delivery in the region, which has been traditionally underfunded.

The study ranks Palm, Tocantins, in first place, followed by Boa Vista and Manaus, Amazonas in third. The rankings signify the importance of ongoing investment and development in sanitation infrastructure, which is crucial for public health, economic development, and overall quality of life in urban areas.
