Mpox: Manhuaçu has its first confirmed case
The first case of mpox has been confirmed in Manhuaçu, Brazil, according to the State Health Secretariat of Minas Gerais.
On Thursday, the State Health Secretariat of Minas Gerais (SES-MG) reported the first confirmed case of mpox in Manhuaçu. This marks the only incidence of the disease in the municipality for the year. Individuals are advised to remain vigilant for symptoms such as fever, headaches, muscle aches, swollen lymph nodes, and skin lesions, and to seek help at the nearest basic health unit if they suspect exposure. Recent statistics indicate that Minas Gerais has recorded a total of 17 confirmed cases of mpox so far in 2026, with all patients showing clinical progress towards recovery. Most cases have been concentrated in the capital city, Belo Horizonte, which has seen 11 confirmed infections. Other locations with reported cases include Contagem (3 cases), Formiga (1 case), and Ribeirão das Neves (1 case). The SES-MG also highlighted that all reported cases involve men aged between 25 and 56 years old. As the situation develops, health officials are focused on providing accurate information to the public to help prevent further spread of the virus, emphasizing the importance of community awareness and education.
