Juiz de Fora will receive the Hip-hop Gerais Exhibition; learn about the artist mapping process
The Hip-hop Gerais Exhibition will take place in Juiz de Fora, aiming to strengthen and promote peripheral cultural productions.
Juiz de Fora is set to host the Hip-hop Gerais Exhibition, an event designed to highlight and empower cultural productions from the outskirts of society. This initiative is part of a broader effort across four cities in Minas Gerais to map artists and collectives, with the first phase involving the creation of a comprehensive roster of hip-hop talent in these regions. The mapping process is scheduled to run until March 21 and is open to individual artists, groups, and collectives that wish to participate by submitting a registration form.
The Hip-hop Gerais Exhibition is organized by the NGO Favela é Isso Aí in collaboration with the State Secretariat of Culture and Tourism of Minas Gerais, the Government of Minas Gerais, Cemig, and local municipalities. This initiative, funded through the State Law of Incentive to Culture of Minas Gerais, aims to promote local artists and underscore the significance of hip-hop culture within its native territory. By focusing on the specific context and contributions of Minas Gerais' hip-hop scene, the exhibition seeks to validate and elevate these cultural expressions that often emerge from marginalized areas.
Throughout the year, the exhibition will unfold in three distinct phases, starting with the mapping of participants and followed by curated events that showcase the talents of the region. The emphasis on local culture and community engagement aims not only to celebrate artistic endeavors but also to foster a sense of belonging and agency among the creators. The Hip-hop Gerais Exhibition symbolizes a movement to recognize and amplify the voices from Brazil's peripheries and provide them with platforms to reach wider audiences, thereby enriching the national cultural landscape.
