Rafael Greca leaves Ratinho Junior's party and joins the MDB aiming for the government of PR

Former Curitiba mayor Rafael Greca has left the PSD party to join the MDB, aiming for a candidacy in the Paraná state government.

Rafael Greca, the former mayor of Curitiba, announced on Thursday that he is leaving the PSD party to join the MDB as he sets his sights on a pre-candidacy for the government of Paraná. This move comes after he previously hinted that he would exit the PSD if he could not find the support he needed within the party to pursue his ambitions for the Palácio Iguaçu, the seat of the Paraná state government.

In the context of the ongoing political maneuvering in Paraná, the PSD party, led by Governor Ratinho Junior, had been considering three main candidates for the gubernatorial race. Alongside Greca, the potential candidates included state deputy Alexandre Curi and the state secretary for Cities, Guto Silva. However, Governor Ratinho Junior has reportedly signaled a preference for Guto Silva, which has undermined the political aspirations of both Curi and Greca, leading them to seek opportunities in different parties.

As the political landscape shifts, the Progressives party (PP) has also expressed interest in Greca joining them, further complicating the situation for other contenders like Senator Sergio Moro, who is expected to leave his current party, União. By aligning himself with the MDB, Greca may be consolidating his position as a significant contender in the upcoming elections, as he navigates the evolving dynamics of Paraná's political scene.
