Nursing student turned out to be the mastermind of international cyber fraud, accused in custody
A Nigerian citizen studying nursing in India has been arrested for allegedly running an international cyber fraud network.
The police in Meerut, India, have apprehended a Nigerian citizen suspected of masterminding an international cyber fraud scheme. The accused was studying nursing at Subharti University while allegedly managing a network involved in defrauding individuals out of large sums of money. Authorities suspect that millions of rupees may have been funneled through the accused's bank accounts, indicating the scale of the operation. Another Nigerian accomplice is reportedly on the run and is known to have completed nursing studies in Haryana, adding an international dimension to the case.
As per the City SP of Meerut, Ayush Vikram, the arrested individual named Umar has been involved in cyber fraud activities for the past two years and has reportedly processed transactions amounting to approximately 4.5 million rupees through his bank accounts. The operation is believed to be part of a more extensive organized international network, leading to an ongoing investigation by local law enforcement.
The case raises significant concerns about the rise of cybercrime in the region, emphasizing the need for robust measures to combat such activities. The authorities are not only focusing on the arrested individual but also on unraveling the broader network associated with him, which could potentially lead to further arrests and prevention of future fraudulent activities.
