Wastewater Analysis: Frankfurt is Germany's Cocaine Capital

A wastewater analysis shows that Frankfurt has the highest cocaine consumption in Germany, significantly surpassing other cities.

A recent wastewater analysis published by the European Drug Agency (EUDA) reveals that Frankfurt is the city with the highest cocaine consumption in Germany. This finding is based on data from 2025, indicating that the city not only leads in weekend usage but also throughout the week. Following Frankfurt are Hamburg and Berlin, making it clear that there are significant drug consumption patterns across the country.

The analysis covered 115 European cities across 25 countries, showing noticeable drug use across nearly all participating nations. Over the past year, the traces of cocaine detected in wastewater increased by more than 20%, with countries like Belgium, the Netherlands, and Spain showing particularly high rises. While Eastern European cities tend to report lower levels of cocaine consumption, the data indicates a concerning upward trend in drug use overall, especially in locations like Frankfurt.

Although there are no specific data for Frankfurt from 2024, comparisons with past data, such as from 2017, might suggest continued increases in cocaine presence. This trend raises important questions about public health, drug policy, and the need for comprehensive interventions to address rising drug consumption in urban areas across Germany and Europe as a whole.
