Frankfurt Airport: Sniffer Dog Finds Cocaine Worth 5.7 Million Euros
A customs dog at Frankfurt Airport uncovered 83 kilograms of cocaine hidden in three suitcases, with a street value of 5.7 million euros.
Customs officials at Frankfurt Airport seized 83 kilograms of cocaine hidden in three suitcases, which were discovered thanks to a sniffer dog named Zlat. The drug's street value is estimated at 5.7 million euros. The discovery took place on February 17, when the cocaine, wrapped in 76 blocks with tape, was found in the luggage of a flight arriving from Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
Authorities noted that this seizure represents a significant find, as it is not common to encounter such a large quantity of drugs concealed in a single location at the airport. Recently, customs agents have encountered smaller amounts hidden in double-bottom compartments or other clever hiding spots. However, the sheer volume of cocaine found in this instance, described as extraordinary by officials, raises concerns about drug trafficking operations in and around the airport.
The seizure highlights the ongoing battle against drug smuggling and the effectiveness of trained sniffer dogs in detecting illicit substances. The main customs office spokesperson emphasized that while smaller quantities are frequently intercepted, this particular case underscores the scale at which organized crime operates, suggesting an increase in attempts to smuggle larger amounts of drugs into Germany through international flights.
