Tartu University Chamber Choir won first place at the international choir competition
The Tartu University Chamber Choir achieved first place and received two gold diplomas and a special award at an international choir competition in Antequera, Spain.
The Tartu University Chamber Choir has earned recognition at the first-ever Cantaquera – International Coral Festival held in Antequera, Spain, securing top honors with two gold diplomas and a special award. Under the direction of conductor Triin Koch, the choir excelled in the higher difficulty category for sacred music, competing against three other choirs and achieving first place. Additionally, the choir claimed a gold diploma in the mixed choir category, finishing in second place and won a special prize for a diverse program in sacred choral music.
The competition took place from March 12 to March 15, 2023, and featured participation from 12 choirs across ten different countries, highlighting the international spirit of the event organized by Interkultur, a known entity in the realm of choir competitions. The event not only showcased musical prowess but also cultural exchange, as the Tartu University Chamber Choir represented Estonia at the opening concert and friendship concert of the competition, adding to the significance of their achievements on a global stage.
This victory not only underscores the exceptional talent and dedication of the choir members and their conductor but also elevates Tartu University’s status within the international music community.
