Man sets his own car on fire after discovering it was worth less than R$ 5 thousand in MT
A man set his own car on fire in Sorriso, Brazil, after learning from a mechanic friend that the vehicle was worth less than R$ 5,000.
In Sorriso, a city located 420 km from Cuiabá, a man decided to set his own car ablaze after receiving a disappointing evaluation from his mechanic friend, who informed him that the vehicle had virtually no monetary value, being worth less than R$ 5,000. Following a series of costly repairs and ongoing mechanical issues, the man became frustrated with the vehicle's persistent problems and opted for this extreme solution.
The incident occurred in a forested area within the Bairro Carolina neighborhood, and the fire department was contacted to extinguish the flames. Unfortunately, due to the distance from the nearest fire unit to the location, the car was fully engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived. Fortunately, despite the destruction of the vehicle, there were no injuries reported, and the fire was contained without causing damage to the surrounding area.
This act of arson raises questions regarding mental health and emotional distress linked to financial burdens in car ownership. Moreover, under Brazilian law, setting fire to a vehicle can constitute a crime, highlighting the serious legal implications of such reckless behavior, despite the owner's intentions to rid himself of what he deemed a worthless asset.
