Fire destroys businessman’s car 7 months after purchase in PI; valued at R$ 155 thousand

A businessman’s car was destroyed by fire in Teresina, Brazil, just seven months after its purchase.

A fire broke out on Monday afternoon in Teresina, Brazil, destroying a car owned by businessman Walber Magalhães Barbosa. The incident occurred on Estrada da Alegria in the Jardim Europa neighborhood, where the local fire department managed to extinguish the flames without any reported injuries. The car, a Chevrolet purchased new just seven months ago, was valued at approximately R$ 155,000 and had been driven for about 10,000 kilometers since its purchase.

Walber reported that he experienced a severe scare during the incident and is concerned about the potential risk associated with the fire. Prior to the fire, the vehicle had encountered electrical issues that necessitated a visit to the dealership for inspection after its first service. After reaching out to Chevrolet regarding the incident, the company suggested that a formal report be filed to initiate a proper investigation into the cause of the fire.

Walber purchased the car through an authorized dealership in Brasília and had it transported to Teresina. This event raises questions about vehicle safety and the manufacturer's responsibility in case of defects, especially given the near-new status of the vehicle and its prior electrical issues.
