Increased Concern for India Due to Attacks on Energy Sites, PM Modi Talks to France and Oman

India is raising alarms over attacks on energy infrastructure in the Middle East, with Prime Minister Modi discussing the situation with global leaders, including those from France and Oman.

India is increasingly worried about the attacks on energy and gas facilities in the Middle East, which have heightened global concerns regarding stability and security in the region. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has proactively reached out to leaders from countries such as France, Oman, and Malaysia to discuss the situation. In light of the rising tensions, especially following the Israeli attacks on Iran's strategic gas region of South Pars, Modi has emphasized the need for diplomatic solutions to de-escalate tensions in West Asia.

These attacks not only pose a threat to regional stability but are particularly sensitive for India, which relies heavily on liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies from Qatar, accounting for about 40% of its total LNG needs. The situation escalated after Iran targeted energy infrastructures in Gulf countries in retaliation. Notably, attacks have included key LNG centers, such as Qatar's Ras Laffan, which highlights the global implications of such tensions.

The Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, reiterated calls for protecting energy and civilian infrastructure from attacks. He underscored that recent events are a cause for concern not just for India, but for the entire world, and stressed the urgent need to halt these aggressive actions to maintain stability in global markets and ensure energy security.
