Sahel accounts for nearly half of all terror-related deaths: report

The Global Terrorism Report, released by the Institute for Economics and Peace, highlights the Sahel region of Africa as the "global epicentre of terrorism," accounting for a staggering nearly half of all global terrorism-related deaths for the third consecutive year in 2025. The report evaluates and ranks 163 countries based on various terrorism-related metrics such as attacks, deaths, and injuries, revealing alarming trends in regions heavily impacted by violence. In 2024, the Sahel recorded more than half of the world's 7,555 terrorism-related deaths, a figure that slightly decreased in 2025 but remained significant.
