Operation 'Luxury Watch': Police arrest man suspected of shooting businessman in attempted robbery in the interior of SP

A 20-year-old man has been arrested in São Paulo, suspected of attempting to rob and shoot a businessman for a luxury watch worth R$ 120,000 in Piracicaba.

In a significant operation by the Civil Police, a 20-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday, January 18, in connection with the attempted murder and robbery of a businessman in Piracicaba, São Paulo. The incident occurred in December 2025 when the businessman was confronted by armed criminals who aimed to steal his luxury watch valued at R$ 120,000. In the scuffle, the businessman bravely resisted the robbers but sustained a graze wound to his head from a gunshot. Remarkably, the criminals fled the scene without managing to steal the watch.

The police investigation has indicated that this violent robbery is linked to an organized criminal group specializing in stealing high-end watches, comprising at least four individuals. As law enforcement continues to develop leads, authorities have reported identifying three suspects so far, with two of them being brothers who are believed to be the leaders of this criminal enterprise. One additional suspect remains at large, leading the police to further pursue leads to capture all involved in this incident.

This arrest highlights the growing issue of organized crime related to luxury goods in Brazil, particularly in urban areas where such thefts have become increasingly common. The police are stressing the importance of vigilance and community awareness to prevent further incidents of high-profile robberies, emphasizing that they are actively prioritizing these cases to protect citizens and deter criminal activity in the region.
